18th Anniversary of Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church

Hope B-P Church was founded 18 years ago in 1986 by Rev. Edward Paauwe with the Church theme, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col 1:27)

Rev. Peter Chua came many times from Singapore to help pastor and nurture the Church when Rev Paauwe was away. For one period in 1998, he pastored the Church for about 6 months.

Our third and present pastor, Rev. Timothy Ki, came from the United States to Adelaide in 1999.

We praise and thank God that Hope B-P Church is what Rev Ki said it was in last week’s Lively Hope article: a Bible believing church; a Biblically separated church; and a Biblically oriented church (i.e. endeavouring to do what the Bible commands her to do). We continue to pray that it will continue to be so in the future.

We praise and thank God for the 18th Anniversary Service held last Sunday on the 6th June. A congregation of more than 100 consisting of members, believers and friends celebrated this event together.

Men’s Fellowship

Hope B-P Church had its second Men’s Fellowship meeting this year on Thursday 3rd June, 2004 at the Stone Mansion and we had a grand figure of 9 men. It is indeed an improvement over the 6 men who met at the first meeting at our Bro. David Yeo’s home last month.

At this meeting last week, Rev. Peter Chua was out guest speaker and he spoke on the role of a Christian man as a father, son and husband. He led a lively discussion on various topics, including divorce, discipline of children and treatment of elderly parents.

We thank God for this opportunity, where men - young or old, can have fellowship with one another, but can learn from one another's experiences. Most importantly, we have this opportunity to learn from the Bible and hopefully, to obey what we have learnt.

We do pray and hope that more men may be able to join future men’s fellowship meeting, so that together we can grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev. Peter Chua

Rev. Peter Chua, the pastor of Sharon B-P Church, Singapore, has a long history of association with Hope B-P Church. He has been to Hope B-P Church many times over the past 18 years. We thank God that he was able to come to Hope B-P Church to be our guest speaker on the 18th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service last Sunday on the 6th of June, where he spoke on the important topic of “Faith that can move mountains”. The Bible verse which he left with us from the sermon was, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” Matthew 21:22. Indeed, faith was there when Rev. Edward Paauwe founded Hope B-P Church 18 years ago, and faith was there when the Stone Mansion was acquired for the use of Hope B-P Church.

We thank God that Rev. Peter Chua was not only our guest speaker on the 18th Anniversary Service but he also spoke on 3 occasions in the one week he was here with us; in last Sunday’s Worship Service, where he spoke on “The Benediction”, in the Men’s Fellowship, and at the Young Adults’ meeting. He also joined the neighbourhood Bible Study groups (BSAG, Joy and Maranatha) throughout the week.

May God continue to bless his ministry.

Love in Him,
Dn. N.J. Gong
